TMI or not TMI, that's the question?

Comments

I agree witht he everyone wanting to give away TMI. "So, who did you vote for" (people would have been scandalized to have been asked this question a hundred years ago, now we display the answer on our cars and on signs in our yards).
I think everyone experiences the divine differently due to how our minds filter things. This could be due to genetics, culture, upbringing and so on. This experience not only includes how one conceives of the divinity (what type of god or goddess, or impersonal force) but also how one views themself (multiple lives, real animal, fantasy animal like a dragon, etc). To enforce rationality on one's personal divine experiences is to block that same experience.

Yet because the divine experience is personal one should not expect others to believe that what you experience is objective reality as religions do. Only that which has good scientific evidence can be considered objective reality.

So while I understand while you may not consider it worthwhile to share your experiences I think peace on earth is going to require a change in viewpoint from the religious to the spiritual. So I hope you will continue to share your insights as you get the urge to write. :)
Questioning is absolutely terrifying, and I felt like I was somehow "losing my faith" when I went from being absolutely Wiccan to "something or other that believes in a generally Pagan basis and worldview, but I also believe in..." I think though that instead of making me lose faith, I had to realize that what I was beginning to embrace was a change from religion to spirituality, like SpiritSeeker said. I'm not sure I can call myself anything, but in my search for some sort of connection with others in a religious fashion calling myself a Pagan is the closest approximation. Now that I've settled in that realization, I see it more as a deepening of faith than a loss. Questioning periods still ruffle my feathers a bit, but change always does. Now I settle into my introspective periods more easily and they go more quickly because I'm not bucking them as much.
